Abstract

This research aims to study contemporary Omani women's writings that can be classified under the genre of autobiography, identifying the reasons that have led Omani women to write their autobiographies. It examines the themes of these books and their external and internal titles to determine the extent to which these texts adhere to the general conventions of autobiography. The significance of this research stems from being the first scientific endeavor to study contemporary Omani women's autobiographies based on literary genre theory. It is also the first study to explore the selected books to reveal the uniqueness of Omani women in their self-writings and their objectives behind such writings. By doing so, it lays the foundation for the subject, paving the way for researchers to delve deeper into it and continue exploring its other aspects. The research problem lies in the fact that autobiography does not distinguish itself one hundred percent from other narrative genres, and in the instability of artistic elements in autobiographical records. Therefore, the research sought to address these issues on two levels: the theoretical level, relying on the methodologies of Philippe Lejeune and Georges May, and the applied level by studying the motivations behind self-writing in the selected books, analyzing their themes and their external and internal titles, leading to the artistic specifications of the studied text.
