This study aims to offer a novel interpretation of Nasīb (ruins) introduction, considering the historical context of this introduction and its semantic significance and its position within the poem. It establishes this novel interpretation through four sequential premises, structured in a scientifically and logically coherent progression, depending on the achievements of cognitive science. The study concluded that Nasīb introduction in pre-Islamic poems evolved into an artistic tradition established by an implicit agreement between the poet and the tribe members. The poet’s standing up before the ruins and his recall of the locations, along with their environmental, social, and psychological contexts, collectively stimulated the memory of all tribe members. Consequently, individual memory was transformed into collective memory. Thus, Nasīb introduction became reminding the tribe of its victory over the tripartite challenge of the environment, the society, and the self. Based on the examining the relationship between ancient Arabic poetry and collective memory, it becomes evident that new research avenues are opening to explore this concept further. We still require a broader perspective on the role of pre-Islamic poetry, across all its themes and concepts, in establishing the tribe's and the Ṣa'ālīk (Vagabonds) collective memories to preserve their entity and identity.
