This study aims to clarify the Sharia ruling on mitochondrial replacement, a contemporary medical issue closely related to the objectives of Sharia and the preservation of lineage. The topic was selected due to the scarcity of jurisprudential studies addressing it and the need to shed light on its various dimensions. The study defines mitochondria, explains their functions and associated risks, outlines the technology and its methods, and examines the opinions of contemporary scholars, ultimately identifying the prevailing view. To achieve these aims, the study employs analytical, inductive, descriptive, and comparative methodologies to collect, analyze, and evaluate relevant information, with the goal of determining the most well-founded scholarly opinion. Mitochondria play a vital role in energy production, and their dysfunction can lead to serious health consequences. Although mitochondrial replacement may contribute to the birth of a healthy child, the majority of scholars prohibit it, arguing that its potential harms outweigh its benefits. This view is regarded as the stronger opinion based on a careful assessment of these risks. The study offers an integrated scientific and jurisprudential analysis, linking modern biomedical knowledge with Sharia principles. In doing so, it contributes to the enrichment of contemporary jurisprudential discourse and provides a solid foundation for deriving Sharia rulings on emerging medical technologies.
