The paper presented by Jerry L. Morgan: “Observation on the pragmatics of metaphor” is one of the most serious and enriching reviews of John Searl's theory of metaphor, and this study has dealt with the theory and analysis, first presented to Searle's theory, which he established through criticism of the substitutionary and interactive theories, and the study presented Morgan’s paper which presented Searle's theory, and from there to the analysis of his opinion In theory: what he agreed with Searle and what he disagreed, then the observations and problems he raised about the theory. The study reached several results that reflect the advantages of what Searle presented in his theory, the first of which was to distinguish between the meaning of the sentence and the meaning of the speaker, and that both theories of substitution and interaction were deficient in of Searle’s and Morgan’s opinion to provide an adequate metaphorical analysis, and that metaphor does not carry a "change in meaning" as much as it carries the initiate semantics changes meanings according to the pragmatics view. One of the observations taken by Morgan on Searle's theory is that his examples were not sufficiently supportive of his theory as they are dead metaphors or idioms, and that Searle's three-step analysis failed to analyze many metaphorical examples, as well as Searle's eight principles are too long for the listener's mind to be reviewed or even aware of to make a successful metaphorical analysis.
