Abstract

This research deals with a unique expression in its structure, where grammarians and Quranic exegetes have taken various approaches in its analysis. I have surveyed its forms in the Qur’an, then presented what grammarians and exegetes, ancient and modern, have said about it. We attempted to weigh the unique contributions of Imam Sheikh Mohammed Abduh, the similar expressions listed in (Majma' Al-Amthal by Al-Maydani), and what researcher Khulood Al-Saleh included in (Grammatical Styles Following the Course of Proverbs). I argue that the Quranic expression is indivisible and should not be subjected to grammatical rules that might detract from its aesthetics.
