ARTISTIC COMPONENTS IN ĀDAM YAHYĀ ‘ABDUR-RAHMĀN AL-FULĀNIYY’S ARABIC AUTOBIOGRAPHY TITLED “ON THE ROAD”

This research is a study of Ādam Yahyā ‘Abdur-Rahmān Al-Fulāniyy's Arabic autobiography titled “On the Road”, which majorly focused on searching for knowledge, and relationship with races and tribes, in addition to other social, political and religious aspects of life for uplifting the humanities. Indeed, not much research has been done on the selected creative work, therefore, this study aims at showcasing it comprehensively. The objectives of the study were to pinpoint the level of compliance of the selected work with the established theory of Arabic autobiography-writing, assess the themes of the selected autobiography and to evaluate the writer’s artistic capability in the use of grammar, logic and embellishments for autobiography-writing. The study employed historical method in tracing the author’s biography for correlation with the work. The descriptive approach was also used for unveiling the contents of the selected autobiography and handling the discourse of its artistic components. The major finding of this study was that the writer complied with the established theory of autobiography-writing to a large extent, confirming high level of his capability in the use of elegant style. It is therefore recommended that more Arabic autobiographies be written to continue to benefit Arabic readers.
