Abstract

This research aims to talk at length about linguistic planning, which is one of the branches of social linguistics, in terms of defining it linguistically, idiomatically and explaining its origin, while talking about its most important goals and issues, clarifying  the manifestations of linguistic planning among the ancient Arabs ,who laid the first building blocks for Arab sciences in general. Some of the manifestations of linguistic planning that are to mentioned: developing the science of grammar, putting points on letters, describing the sounds of the Arabic language, arranging the letters of the alphabet, inventing The science of the balance of Arabic poetry, composing the first Arabic dictionary, taking care of the vocabulary of Arabic speech, Arabization and translation of texts. I sought to collect what was scattered in language books about linguistic planning and to show its relationship to social linguistics, and to collect what was scattered about aspects of linguistic planning in the past, and the research relied on the descriptive analytical method. The research concluded that the ancient Arabs planned and paid attention of linguistic sciences, through various aspects, although not called linguistic planning at that time.
