The “Homonym” and it’s impact in the exegesis of Imam Al-Nasafi (d:710 AH) “Madarek Al-Tanzeel wa Haqaeq Al-Taweel”

Abstract

The research studies the “Homonym” in the exegesis of Al-Imam Al-Nasafi (d:710 AH) titled “Madārik al-tanzīl wa-ḥaqāʼiq al-taʼwīl”, which aims to scrutinize the approach adopted by the erudite scholar to leverage the different branches of this subject, and its applications in the Quranic text; to acquire deeper understanding of the correct approaches used to understand the Allah’s Speech. It also aims to consolidate the methods set by the scholars to control juristic considerations to deduce legal provisions, to protect the Qur’an from distortion, plagiarism and false interpretation. The research depends on the analytical and deductive research methodologies. It presents the definition of the Homonym, both literally and technically. This is followed by presenting all related issues in details, and studying its impact of the exegesis of Al-Imam Al-Nasafi. To conclude, the research findings are cited, including: Imam Nasafi used used the concept of Homonym in his exegesis, as he was following the Hanafi school. This was clearly reflected in his deduction of Islamic rulings.

The research depends on the analytical and deductive research methodologies. It presents the definition of the Polysemy, linguistically and idiomatically. This is followed by presenting all related matters in details, and studying its impact of the exegesis of AlImam AlNasafi. At the end, it concludes by mentioning the results, which are: The Imam used the concept of Polysemy in his exegesis, as he was following the Hanafi school regarding this connotation. This was reflecting the deriving of the Islamic rulings.
