SEMANTIC RESEARCH IN THE TEXTS OF THE PROPHET’S SUNNAH- (STUDY IN THE BOOK "’IKHTELAF AL- HADITH BY AL-SAHAFI)

Abstract

Semantic research is one of the most important means used to understand prophetic texts; this science has emerged in the works of Imam Shafi'i, particularly in his book ’Ikhtilaf al-ḥadith". The study took care to discuss this subject and aimed to reveal the methods and methods of Imam Shafi'i in his book "’Ikhtilaf al-ḥadith" in employing semantic research to understand prophetic texts, and to show the link of semantic research to the direction of meaning. The study followed the descriptive analytical approach. It concluded some results, the most important of which were; It concluded that Imam Shafi'i stressed the need to understand the Prophet's Sunnah through semantics of all kinds, the origin of semantic research and his use in understanding the texts of the Prophet's Sunnah, which was evident in his book "’Ikhtilaf al-ḥadith"; through rooting and application in verbal semantics and context, and knowledge of the private and public, and internal and external evidence to determine significance, which had a significant impact on understanding and combining the conflicting and correcting corrupt understanding.
